The all-in-one workspace for acoustic design

Build each job from modular calculation blocks that show every step of their working. Share templates, chart styles and data across the team, and keep the whole job in one file, in one desktop app.

See what it does

For Windows and macOS · Works offline · Your data stays on your computer

Efficient
One window and one file for the whole job, not five programs.
Modular
Calculation blocks that chain together and recalculate as you go.
Traceable
Every input and every step of the working, on show.
Collaborative
Templates, chart styles and data shared across the team.

From the drawing to the result, in one window

The drawing, the map, the sheet and the plot sit side by side, so the work moves between them without switching software.

Measure on the drawing

Open the drawing beside your sheet, set the scale once, then measure lengths and areas and mark up as you go. Send each measurement straight into your calcs.

Measure on the map

Mark up receptors and barriers on the site map and measure the distances between them, with no trip out to a mapping tool and back.

Timbral is excellent. It allows me to run my calculations under one roof, and makes my life easier!
Gareth Davies, CEng, MIOA

No black box

Each calculation drops in as its own block of inputs, workings and result. Follow every step, change any input, and watch it recalculate.

An ISO 9613-2 barrier attenuation block: source, receiver and barrier inputs, the path-length workings in the formula bar, and the attenuation in each octave band

Verified against hand-calculated references, with over 600 acoustics tests behind the calculations.

Works offline

Timbral runs on your own machine. There is no cloud calculation and nothing is sent to a server, so it works on site, on a train, and under an NDA.

A spreadsheet copy on every save

Workings and results are written to spreadsheets on every save, inside your project file. Rename the .tmb to .zip and they are there, even if you stop subscribing.

Move beyond Excel

Powerful tools for the next generation of acoustic engineers.

Global variables

Name a noise source or a sound reduction index once and use it anywhere. Your inputs live in one place and are shared across every sheet.

Instant plots, scaled to your data

Chart a spectrum down the bands or across the rows. The axes scale themselves, so your time goes on the result, not the formatting, and the chart copies straight into the report.

In-built data processing

Tidy and transform survey data where it sits, without a detour through another spreadsheet.

Set it up once, share it with the team

Everyone starts from the same foundation, ensuring quality and brand alignment.

A reverberation-time template sheet with its linked plot: room dimensions, surface areas and absorption, Sabine and Eyring results and the NS 8178 limit

Shareable templates

Save a finished sheet, or a set of sheets, as a template, with its calculations, formatting and linked plots. Point the whole team at a shared templates folder, or send a colleague a single template file.

A reverberation-time chart redrawn in a house style after applying the plotting defaults: dashed and solid lines, with the NS 8178 limit as bars

Plotting defaults

Set the house chart style once: fonts, axis titles, gridlines, line styles and series colours. Export it to a file and colleagues import it, so every new chart looks like the practice made it.

Fully searchable data library

Turn a shared spreadsheet of data into a flexible library, filterable by any parameter. It updates whenever the spreadsheet does, so the whole practice can keep it current.

67 calculations and counting

Each one drops into the sheet as a movable block: inputs you can edit, workings you can follow, hide or move between sheets.

New calculations and features arrive in regular updates, included for as long as you subscribe.

Questions

Anything else? Just ask, or send us a note.

When can I get it?

Timbral is in development and will be released before the end of 2026. Register your interest and we'll let you know as soon as it's available.

What will it cost?

There's a 14-day free trial. After that it's a monthly subscription, or a lower rate on a 12-month commitment. Register your interest now for an exclusive discount on launch.

Which platforms does it run on?

Windows, on both Intel/AMD and ARM machines, and macOS.

Do I need to be online to use it?

No. Timbral works offline and your data stays on your computer. It checks your licence when you activate, and now and then after that, with a grace period if you're away from a connection. Your calculations, drawings and data never leave your machine.

Can I get my work out of it?

Yes, and you don't have to think about it. Calculation workings and results are exported to spreadsheets on every save, inside the saved file itself: rename the .tmb to .zip and open it. A workbook and a CSV for each sheet are there, and they stay readable even if your trial ends.

Can I trust the results?

The calculations are verified against hand-calculated references, with over 600 acoustics tests behind them, and every block shows its working so you can check the method. As with any in-house spreadsheet, it's up to you to use your own experience and professional judgment before you accept a result.

Where do the calculations come from?

Published standards and guidance, among them ISO 9613-2, ISO 717-1, ISO 11654, BS 8233, NS 8178, CIBSE Guide B4 and ASHRAE. Every block shows its working, so you can check the method and show it in your report.

Will it keep improving?

Yes. Timbral gets regular updates with new calculations and features, and every update is included for as long as you subscribe. If there is a calculation you would like to see, tell us.
